How it works
Half the commonest Kazakh phrases are built without an I. It simply is not needed.
Bar and zhoq mean there is and there is not. They are states rather than verbs, and they stand at the very end: uaqyt bar, bailanys zhoq. The one who has takes -de or -da: mende aqsha bar. A place takes the same tail: üyde eshkim zhoq.
Kerek means needed, and the one who needs takes -ğa or -ge: mağan zaryadtağysh kerek.
Weather and how you feel are shorter still. Suyıq, ystyq, zhyly: one word and the phrase is done. Mağan suyıq is I am cold; üyde suyıq is the house is cold. The trap: I have a brother is meniñ ağam bar, never mende ağam bar.
