At the edge of our district there is a small river, and as children we swam there. In recent years the bank got so polluted that nobody wanted to put even a foot in the water anymore. In spring volunteers carried out forty bags of trash, and part of it was taken for recycling. We collected money for bags and gloves in the yard: everyone gave as much as they could. Now there are benches on the bank, and on Sundays children come down there from the playground.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What happened to the bank in recent years?

  2. How many bags of trash did the volunteers carry out?

  3. How was the money collected?

  4. What is on the bank now?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Georgian?

B1. That means: everyday topics are behind you, you know about three thousand words, and an unknown word is more often guessed from the sentence than looked up.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
