Question words
Catalan has no upside-down ¿. The question word opens the sentence on its own: què — what, com — how, on — where. For example: “Com et dius?” — What is your name?. A rule from the Catalan course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
Catalan has no upside-down ¿. The question word opens the sentence on its own: què — what, com — how, on — where.
Two more of the same kind: quan — when, quant — how much.
Word order does not have to change. Parles català? is a normal question, and the intonation does the work.
"Where is it?" is asked with és: On és l'estació?
By example
- Com et dius? What is your name?
- On és l'estació?Where is the station?
- Quant costa? How much does it cost?
How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
