How it works
Almost the whole topic is nouns made from verbs, and two predictable suffixes do it. -ում (-um) — the action as a process or a single act. Take the verb stem: ch'ap'eł → ch'ap'um (a measurement); stugel → stugum (a check). A word in -ում is always countable.
-ութիւն — a property, a state, an abstract notion. What is taken is not the verb but its participle or an adjective: mdatsogh (thinking) → mdatsoghut'yun (thought); jshgrit (precise) → jshgrtut'yun (precision). Such a word is usually not counted.
In doubt, put a number in front of the word: if it works — -ում; if not — -ութիւն.
What happens to the root. The word loses an inner vowel more often than one expects: midk' → mdk'i; jshgrit → jshgrtut'yun. An unstressed ի (i) or ու (u) in the middle drops out when something is glued on.
