At first glance these are unpronounceable long words. In fact almost every one is two familiar words stitched by one vowel. Whoever sees the seam reads an unfamiliar word. How it works
At first glance these are unpronounceable long words. In fact almost every one is two familiar words stitched by one vowel. Whoever sees the seam reads an unfamiliar word.
The connecting -ա- is put between the roots. Hank' + vayr → hank'avayr (a deposit); aghp + vayr → aghpavayr (a dump); kanaich + padum → kanaichapadum (landscaping). Keghd + jrer → keghdajrer (waste waters); jerm + ots → jermots (a greenhouse).
The first root often loses a tail in the stitching. Sarruyts + dashd gives not "sarruytsadashd" but sarrtsadashd: the ույ drops out. The same: adzukh + dzin → adzkhadzin (carbon); zhamanag + hadvadz → zhamanakahadvadz (a period). The rule is simple: an unstressed vowel in the middle does not survive. The tail -ավայր means "a place", -արան — "premises", -ութիւն — a property. Knowing this, you take apart hangstavayr (a resort), krataran (a library) without a dictionary.
The reverse move: a -ող form instead of an adjective. English "endangered species" is built here with a -ող form: anhedatsogh desag. The same -ող makes verakangnvogh (renewable) and zijogh (yielding, accommodating). The suffix is alive: attach it to any verb and you get "the one that does this".
