Maiu chas I have time — but ne maiu chasu. Bachyv film — but ne bachyv filmu. Kupyv khlib — but ne kupyv khliba. This is not a style point: ne bachyv film sounds translated.
The test is easy: swap in nemaie — nemaie chasu, nemaie filmu. The shape matches, so you can always check yourself.
The of form also follows nemaie, brakue, vystachae, ne bulo, ne bude, and the prepositions bez, do, vid, dlia, pislia, krim, zamist. One exception: an object pulled in front of the verb for punch may keep its shape — tsei film ia ne bachyv. The safe default is still the of form.
