Masculine takes -e or -u: Ivane, brate, druzhe, but after a soft consonant likariu, vchyteliu, Andriiu. Feminine takes -o or -e: Oleno, mamo, babusiu, Mariie.
Both parts of the address bend, not just the first: not pane likar but pane likariu, not pani Olena but pani Oleno. Leaving the second half unbent is the mark of a visitor.
Plurals and patronymics hold still: panove, druzi, Ivane Petrovychu. Everyday address is short and warm: dobryi den, pane to a man, pani to a woman, druzi to the whole room.
