Text

  • Pred nakupom omare smo izmerili steno v spalnici.
Before buying the cupboard we measured the bedroom wall. The length of the wall is exactly three meters twenty centimeters. The ceiling height is two and a half meters, so a cupboard up to the ceiling didn’t fit. At the store we were offered a model about three meters wide. The seller said the packaging was too heavy for our elevator. In the end the workers carried it up the stairs and assembled the cupboard in two hours.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What is the length of the wall?
  2. Why didn’t a cupboard up to the ceiling fit?
  3. What did the seller say about the packaging?
  4. How did the cupboard get into the apartment?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Slovenian?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
