Text
Zjutraj so ženske pogrnile dolgo mizo pod orehom in okrasile hišo. The sister’s wedding was in the village where our grandma and grandpa live. In the morning the women laid a long table under the walnut tree and decorated the house. The bride wore her aunt’s wedding dress and a bouquet of wildflowers. After the ceremony the newlyweds cut the cake, and the guests gave money as a gift. Uncle gave a festive speech that lasted too long, but nobody complained. In the evening a bonfire was lit on the meadow, and they danced almost until morning.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Slovenian?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
