Nakup v soboto

A short in Slovenian text at level B1. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. On Saturday my wife and I went to the mall for a winter jacket. In the shop window there was a beautiful woolen jacket…

On Saturday my wife and I went to the mall for a winter jacket. In the shop window there was a beautiful woolen jacket, but too expensive for us. The seller said it was high quality and very durable. We bought it with a bonus card and thus paid fifteen euros less. At home we discovered that the sleeve was sewn on wrong, which means the jacket was defective. On Monday we returned the goods, and the kept receipt settled the return in five minutes.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What did they go to the mall for?
  2. What was the jacket made of?
  3. Why did they pay less?
  4. What turned out wrong with the jacket?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Slovenian?

B1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
