  • Najprej sem oddal vlogo, zatem sem dva meseca čakal odgovor. Medtem ko sem čakal, sem si našel začasno delo v skladišču. Takoj ko je prišlo pismo, sem ga odprl kar pred nabiralnikom. Vlogo so zavrnili, ker sem pozabil priložiti prevod rojstnega lista. Postopoma sem zbral vse papirje in jih drugič oddal pravočasno, teden dni pred rokom. First I filed the application, and after that I waited two months for an answer. While I was waiting, I found myself a temporary job at a warehouse. As soon as the letter came, I opened it right by the mailbox. The application was rejected because I forgot to attach the translation of the birth certificate. Gradually I collected all the papers and filed them a second time on time, a week before the deadline. Since then I photograph every document first and then put it in a folder.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. How long did he wait for the answer?
  2. What was he doing while he waited?
  3. Why was the application rejected?
  4. What does he do now with every document?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Slovenian?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
