Text
The salary is paid on the fifth of each month, but the money runs out by the twentieth. Rent, bills and groceries go right away; a small amount remains. Last month I took an advance, this month I don't want to: I don't like being in debt. My wife and I decided: if we eat out, we split the bill, and we save for vacation separately. Because of inflation everything has become more expensive, but supporting a family on one salary is still possible.

- What happened because of inflation?
Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Turkish?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
