Text

  • Geçen ay en yakın arkadaşımla küçük bir şey yüzünden kavga ettik. Aslında kimse haksız değildi, sadece bir yanlış anlaşılma oldu. İki hafta küs kaldık; ben çok gerildim, o da moralini bozdu. Sonunda arayıp özür diledim, o da beni suçlamadı, sustu ve dinledi. Şimdi barıştık, ama bir daha bu kadar uzun küsmemeye söz verdik.
Last month my best friend and I quarreled over a trifle. Actually neither of us was wrong, it was just a misunderstanding. For two weeks we didn't speak; I was very nervous, and his mood turned sour. In the end I called and apologized, and he didn't blame me — he stayed silent and listened. Now we've made up and promised not to go silent like that for so long again.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What caused the quarrel?
  2. How long didn't they speak?
  3. How did the friend behave during the call?
  4. What did they promise each other?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Turkish?

B1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
