Text

  • Bu yemeğin tarifi anneme ait ve çok kolay. Önce patlıcanları ve salatalıkları soyup doğruyorsun. Suyu kaynatıyorsun, kaynayınca tuzluyor ve iki diş sarımsak ekliyorsun. Yumurtaları ayrı bir kapta çırpıp karışıma ekliyorsun, sonra karıştırıyorsun. Fırında yarım saat pişiriyor, soğutup yoğurtla veriyorsun.
This dish's recipe is my mother's, and it's very simple. First you peel and chop eggplants and cucumbers. You boil water, and when it boils you salt it and add two cloves of garlic. You beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add them to the mixture, then stir. You bake it for half an hour in the oven, let it cool and serve it with yogurt.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. Whose recipe is this?
  2. When should you salt it?
  3. Where are the eggs beaten?
  4. What is the dish served with?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Turkish?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
