Two 'we's: நாங்க and நாம, and why confusing them is awkward
The unit about society rests on a pronoun English lacks. Tamil 'we' is double, and choosing between the two forms is choosing whether the interlocutor is included. For example: “நாம சேர்ந்து ஒரு அறப்பணி பண்ணுவம், நீங்களும் வாங்க” — Let us do a good deed together — and you come too. A rule from the Tamil course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
The unit about society rests on a pronoun English lacks. Tamil 'we' is double, and choosing between the two forms is choosing whether the interlocutor is included.
நாங்க (nāṅga) — we without you. Us, but not you: நாங்க நாளைக்கு போறம் (nāṅga nāḷaikku pōṟam) — we are going tomorrow, and you are not. This is the form you have known since the first unit.
நாம (nāma) — we together with you. நாம போவம் (nāma pōvam) — we shall go, and you with us. The bookish language writes நாம், in speech it sounds நாம or நாங்கள்ளாம depending on the locality. It is நாம that stands in all appeals: நாம இயற்கையை பாதுகாக்க வேணும் — we must protect nature, that is, all of us.
The mistake is expensive in both directions. Saying to a neighbor நாங்க இயற்கையை பாதுகாக்கிறம் (nāṅga iyaṟkaiyai pādugākkiṟam) means 'we protect it, and you do not' — that is a reproach. Saying to a stranger நாம போவம் means inviting him along, and he will go. The verb is different too: நாங்க takes the ending -றம் / -ஓம், நாம — -வம் / -ஓம் in the sense of 'let us'.
By the way, about counting people. Tamil counts people differently from things: the word பேர் (pēr) — 'person' with a numeral. மூண்டு பேர் (mūṇḍu pēr) three people, எத்தனை பேர் (ettaṉai pēr)? how many people. About things this is not said: there மூண்டு புத்தகம் (mūṇḍu puttagam). And ஆள் (āḷ) is a person as a unit of labor: ஒரு ஆள் வேணும் (oru āḷ vēṇum) one worker is needed.
And about the plural of people. A rational noun in the plural takes -கள்: குடியிருப்பாளர்கள், பிள்ளைகள் (piḷḷaigaḷ). But மக்கள் (makkaḷ) and சனம் (saṉam) are already collectives, and a second -கள் is not stuck onto them. மக்கள்கள் is a mistake heard a block away.

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
