The fifty-seventh unit consists almost entirely of terms of two or three words: சரக்குப் பட்டியல் (sarakkup paṭṭiyal), உத்தரவாதக் காலம் (uttaravādak kālam), பாதுகாப்பு உடை (pādugāppu uḍai), கட்டிட வேலைத்தளம் (kaṭṭiḍa vēlaittaḷam). These are not phrases in the English sense — they are compound nouns, and they are assembled by rules worth knowing: then half the unit need not be crammed.
Rule one: the defining word comes first and stands bare. No case, no 'of': சரக்கு (sarakku) goods plus பட்டியல் (paṭṭiyal) list gives 'a waybill'. Compare the English 'a list of goods' — there a genitive, here nothing.
Rule two: the first word loses -ம். மொத்தம் (mottam) gives மொத்த எண்ணிக்கை (motta eṇṇikkai), உத்தரவாதம் (uttaravādam) gives உத்தரவாதக் காலம், கட்டிடம் (kaṭṭiḍam) gives கட்டிட வேலைத்தளம். Forgetting this is a sure way to sound like a station announcement.
Rule three: the consonant at the junction doubles. சரக்கு + பட்டியல் gives சரக்குப் பட்டியல் with an extra ப, கதை (kadai) + சுருக்கம் (surukkam) gives கதைச் சுருக்கம் (kadaic surukkam) with ச, உத்தரவாத + காலம் (kālam) gives உத்தரவாதக் காலம் with க. Only க, ச, த, ப double, and this is the same sandhi you saw in இந்தத் தரம் (indat taram).
Rule four: the chain can be long. நிலத்துக்கு அடியில உள்ள வளம் (nilattukku aḍiyila uḷḷa vaḷam) — the resources under the ground; here a whole participle phrase stands before the noun, and that is normal. Tamil prefers a long modifier on the left to a short one on the right.
And the practical conclusion. If the word does not exist — assemble it. சரக்கு வாற திகதி (sarakku vāṟa tigadi) delivery date, பாவிக்கிற காலம் (pāvikkiṟa kālam) service life, வேலை நிண்ட நேரம் (vēlai niṇḍa nēram) downtime: not one of these words is in the dictionary, and all of them are understood by anyone on the island.
