The first wave took apart the steps at the pronouns (நீ (nī), நீங்க (nīṅga), அவங்க (avaṅga)); this one takes the same steps at the command.
வா (vā) — the bare stem. To a child, the youngest in the family, a close friend, a dog. One does not speak so to an adult stranger at all: this is not 'simply simpler' but plain rudeness, much like calling out 'hey, you'.
வாங்க (vāṅga) — the spoken polite form, the ending -உங்க (-uṅga). A neighbor, a seller, a driver, a colleague, an elder, any stranger. This is the working form of the language, and in doubt it is the one needed. It glues onto the stem almost mechanically: இரு (iru) → இருங்க (iruṅga) wait, சொல்லு (sollu) → சொல்லுங்க (solluṅga) say, குடு (kuḍu) → குடுங்க (kuḍuṅga) give. There are few irregulars, but the commonest are exactly among them: வா → வாங்க, போ (pō) → போங்க (pōṅga).
வாருங்கள் — the full bookish form, the ending -உங்கள். An announcement, a letter, a speech from the podium, an address to an audience. In everyday conversation it is neither ruder nor politer than வாங்க — it is farther: one speaks so at the distance at which an announcer speaks to listeners.
The prohibition is built by the same steps: தொடாதே do not touch (intimate) — தொடாதீங்க (toḍādīṅga) do not touch (polite) — தொடாதீர்கள் in an announcement. The word 'please' is not added to a request: the politeness has already been said by the ending. தயவுசெய்து (tayavuseydu) exists, but it is a written 'we ask you' and sounds strained in conversation; one softens differently — with the word கொஞ்சம் (koñcam) before the request.
Why it is worth stopping on this. A stranger will be forgiven a case, a tense and a stress — they are heard as an accent. The step of politeness is not heard as an accent: it speaks not of command of the language but of one's attitude to the interlocutor. A வா said to a stranger reads exactly like switching to first names with an elderly person in the first minute. Hence the rule without exceptions: with everyone except children and close ones — the form in -உங்க.
And a remark about the norm of the course. The course keeps -உங்க — it is understood both on the island and in Tamil Nadu. In the north of Sri Lanka the same polite form often carries the tail -உங்கோ: வாருங்கோ, இருங்கோ. It is worth recognizing; speaking, the familiar வாங்க is enough.
