A short in Georgian text at level A2. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. My hobby is drawing, but I have little time, so mostly I draw on my day off. Every Friday evening my friends and I play…

My hobby is drawing, but I have little time, so mostly I draw on my day off. Every Friday evening my friends and I play football: our team isn't very strong, but it's interesting. Last week we lost, because two players didn't come to practice. After the match one played the guitar, and we all sang. In the evening at home I read a fairy tale and took photos of the children.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What is the narrator's hobby?
  2. When do they play football?
  3. Why did the team lose?
  4. What was there after the match?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Georgian?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
