Yesterday we had dinner with my friend in old Yerevan. The waiter brought the menu and asked what we would drink. I ordered fish, and for my friend — a dish without meat. The portions were big, and we were full very quickly. The dessert — with honey and nuts — was the most delicious. We asked for the bill and left a tip on the table.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What was ordered for the friend?
  2. What were the portions like?
  3. What was the dessert made of?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Armenian?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
