Text
- Կիրակի օրը ընտանիքով գնացինք Գեղարդ՝ հին վանք սարերի մեջ: Ճանապարհին տատիկս պատմեց, թե ինչու է այդ օրը տոն: Եկեղեցում մոմ վառեցինք, և քահանան աղոթք կարդաց: Դրսում խաչքարերի կողքին մարդիկ հյուրասիրություն էին բաժանում: Պապիկս ասաց, որ այս ավանդույթը շատ հին է և ամեն տարի կրկնվում է: Վերադարձանք երեկոյան, և ես մի փոքր հուշանվեր բերեցի քրոջս համար:kiraki orə əntanik'ov gnatsink' Geghard — hin vank' sareri mej. chanaparhin tatiks patmets, t'e inchu e ayd orə ton. yekeghetsum mom varretsink', yev k'ahanan aghot'k' kardats. drsum khachk'areri koghk'in mardik hyurasirut'yun ein bazhanum. papiks asats, vor ays avanduyt'ə shat hin e yev amen tari krknvum e. veradardzank' yerekoyan, yev yes mi p'ok'r hushanver beretsi k'rojs hamar. On Sunday we went as a family to Geghard — an ancient monastery in the mountains. On the way my grandmother told why this day is a holiday. In the church we lit candles, and the priest read a prayer. Outside, next to the khachkars, people were handing out treats. My grandfather said that this tradition is very ancient and repeats every year. We returned in the evening, and I brought a small souvenir for my sister.
Comprehension questions
The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

- What did they do in the church?
- What did the narrator bring for his sister?
Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Armenian?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
