How it works

The unit about nature almost entirely consists of terms that do not exist in living village speech. They were assembled over the last thirty years, and assembled after three models — their own, not borrowed. Knowing the models, you will take apart terms the course does not even have.

The izafet without a genitive tail — for a kind, not an instance. Ken orny — a deposit, teñiz deñgeyi — sea level, kömirtek izi — the carbon footprint, shu deñgeyi — the noise level. The first word stands bare, the second takes -y/-i/-sy/-si. This is how a category of things is named: a deposit in general, not the deposit of this particular mine. English builds the same with noun compounds: "sea level", "carbon footprint".

The izafet with a genitive tail — for a particular case. Muzdyñ erui — the melting of (this) ice, adamnyñ yqpaly — the influence of (precisely) man, zher qoinauynyñ qory — the reserves of (these) depths. The tail -nyñ/-niñ/-dyñ/-diñ on the first word means belonging. The difference from the first model is semantic, and by ear it is one syllable.

A participle as a modifier. Aghundy su — wastewater (flowing), zhañartylatyn energiya — renewable energy (the kind that will be renewed), zhoiylup bara zhatqan tür — an endangered species (the one heading for extinction), paidalanylğan gaz — exhaust (used). A participle in Kazakh replaces a whole English relative clause, which is why the terms come out longer than a word but shorter than a phrase.

The tail -syz gives the scientific negation. Qaitymsyz özgerister — irreversible changes, aiausyz — merciless, şeksiz — endless. This is the same everyday tail as in zharamsyz, and it alone covers the English "ir-", "-less" and "non-".

Where the term had to be built around a taken word. "Nature protection" could not become tabiğatty qorğau: the course already holds that as "to protect nature", and the slot took the official qorşauğan ortany qorğau. "Soil" did not become topyraq — soil was already written — and took zher qyrtysy. "Stem" without specification would be read as "a lesson", and stands as ösimdik sabaghy. This is not a poverty translation but a detour around an occupied cell.

How the rule settles in your head

A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
