Ğilymi zhañalyq, ölşem nätijesi, tüpki oi: a term of two words
The unit about knowledge and proof runs into the same wall: the English word is one, and Kazakh has a pair in its place. "Discovery" — ğilymi zhañalyq; "a measurement" — ölşem nätijesi; "a misconception" — zhañsaq pikir; "a design" — tüpki oi; "a gap in knowledge" — bilimdeki olqylyq. This is not a poverty translation: this is how the whole bookish layer of the language is built. For example: “Бұл ғылыми жаңалық…
How it works
The unit about knowledge and proof runs into the same wall: the English word is one, and Kazakh has a pair in its place. "Discovery" — ğilymi zhañalyq; "a measurement" — ölşem nätijesi; "a misconception" — zhañsaq pikir; "a design" — tüpki oi; "a gap in knowledge" — bilimdeki olqylyq. This is not a poverty translation: this is how the whole bookish layer of the language is built.
The izafet is the way to say "X of something". The first word stands without a tail, the second takes the possessive -y/-i/-sy/-si: ölşem nätijesi — the result of a measurement, oqiğa zhelisi — the thread of an event, sharyqtau şeği — the limit of an ascent. There is no genitive tail on the first word, and that is the difference from bölmeniñ ortasy: there the talk is about a particular room, here about a kind of thing. English has the same split: "car door" (a kind) versus "the door of my car" (a particular one).
A modifier without a tail — the second device. An adjective or participle simply stands before the noun and changes nothing: ğilymi zhañalyq, zhañsaq pikir, tüpki oi, daiyekti derek. There is no agreement in number or case at all — the Kazakh modifier is immutable, and the case tail is taken only by the last word of the pair: zhañsaq pikirge qarsy — against the misconception.
Why one word cannot be taken. Sometimes the single word exists in the language but is taken by another meaning, and the difference is exactly that. Zhañalyq without ğilymi — a news item from TV. Ölşem without nätijesi — a clothing size. Pikir without zhañsaq — an opinion, a neutral thing. The pair of words here is not decoration but the only way into the right meaning.
Where Kazakh, on the contrary, is thriftier than English. The reverse also happens, and twice in this wave: saldar covers both "consequences" and "a consequence", zhetistik — both "success" and "an achievement". The course puts two cards with one spelling and different translations, because inventing a second word would be a lie.

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
