Text

First I peeled the vegetables and chopped the pumpkin finely on the cutting board. Then I brought the milk to a boil and added salt and a little sugar to it. I put in the pumpkin, cooked it for twenty minutes and kept stirring. I let the finished porridge cool, because the children do not eat hot food. I put the rest in a food container: the shelf life is only two days.

  3. Why was the porridge cooled?
  4. How long does the rest keep?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Kazakh?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
