The leather was worn, and the corners were bound with rusty metal. A thick layer of dust lay on top, and a big stain showed on one side. I looked inside: the contents were intact — a flat box, faded photographs and a set of letters. The box had a small hole on the edge, but nothing had fallen out. The suitcase took up a lot of space, so I pushed it under the bed.
