One ending or two: -եր and -ներ
The Armenian plural is chosen by the length of the word, not by gender or ending — there is no gender at all. The rule is short: a one-syllable word takes -եր, a multi-syllable word takes -ներ. ծառ → ծառեր, տոմս → տոմսեր, քար → քարեր. But ալիք → ալիքներ, կենդանի → կենդանիներ, ճամպրուկ → ճամպրուկներ. You count syllables exactly once per word; after that it is memorized whole. For example: “Այսօր ալիքները մեծ են”…
How it works
The Armenian plural is chosen by the length of the word, not by gender or ending — there is no gender at all. The rule is short: a one-syllable word takes -եր, a multi-syllable word takes -ներ. ծառ (tsarr) → ծառեր (tsarrer), տոմս (toms) → տոմսեր, քար (k'ar) → քարեր. But ալիք (alik') → ալիքներ (alik'ner), կենդանի (kendani) → կենդանիներ (kendaniner), ճամպրուկ (champruk) → ճամպրուկներ. You count syllables exactly once per word; after that it is memorized whole.
Syllables are counted by sound, not by letters. Words ending in -ություն are always multi-syllable: ուրախություն (urakhut'yun) → ուրախություններ. Meanwhile ուս (us) or գույն (guyn) are one syllable and take the short ending.
Exceptions are few but frequent: մարդ (mard) → մարդիկ (people), կին (kin) → կանայք (women), տիկին (tikin) → տիկնայք. They are easier to learn as separate words.
And the main thing that makes an Armenian phrase sound odd to fresh ears: after a number there is no plural. Երկու տոմս (yerku toms), not 'երկու տոմսեր'. Հինգ օր (hing or), տասը մարդ (tasə mard), երեք ափսե (yerek' ap'se). The number has already said how many, and the word has no reason to repeat it. Same after քանի՞ (k'ani) — քանի՞ օր (k'ani or), how many days.

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.

What does it look like in an example sentence Armenian?
“Այսօր ալիքները մեծ են” (aysor alik'nerə mets en) — Today the waves are big. A rule is easier to test on sentences like this than to memorize as a wording: what surfaces in conversation is the sentence.
