At first I studied on my own — with a dictionary and an online course. Grammar was hard for me, and several times I wanted to give up halfway. Then I enrolled in a course where we speak twice a week. The teacher is patient and always says: step by step. Now I learn words every day, ten words, and keep notes. Reading is easy for me, but I still understand speech with difficulty. I want to speak fluently, and for that I need more practice.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
