Yerevanum dzmerrə tsurt e, bayts arevot. hunvarin dzyun e galis, yev k'aghak'ə spitak e linum. garnanə shat andzrev e galis, isk amrranə shat shog e. yes amenashatə sirum em ashunə — zov e yev hangist.
Winter in Yerevan is cold but sunny. In January it snows, and the city becomes white. In spring there is a lot of rain, and in summer it's very hot. Most of all I love autumn: it's cool and calm.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  2. When is there a lot of rain?
  3. Which season does the narrator like most?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Armenian?

A1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
