Text
- Prebentzioa da osasunaren oinarria: gaixotu baino lehen zaintzea esan nahi du. Eskuak garbitzea, kirola egitea eta loa hartzea ohitura onak dira, eta ezerk ez du kostatzen. Birusa eta infekzioak saihesteko, txertoak ere laguntzen dute: immunitatea sendotzen dute. Osasungaitzak diren ohiturak, aldiz, atseginak dira, baina denborarekin okerrera daramate: erretzea, esaterako. Osasuna zaindu behar da gaztetatik; gero beranduegia izan daiteke.Prevention is the basis of health: it means taking care before you fall ill. Washing hands, doing sport and getting enough sleep are good habits, and they cost nothing. To avoid viruses and infections, vaccines help too: they strengthen immunity. Bad habits, on the contrary, are pleasant, but over time they lead to the worst: smoking, for example. Health must be watched from youth; later it may be too late.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Basque?
B1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
