Text
- Atzo lagunekin zinean egon nintzen: komedia bat izan zen, estreinaldia. Kartela ikusita erabaki genuen film hori; sarrerak merkeak ziren, hirugarren astea zelako. Barrean eman genuen gau osoa, eta bukaeran txalo luzeak etorri ziren. Kanpoan zine-zuzendaria zegoen eta berarekin argazki bat atera genuen. Etxera autobusez itzuli ginen, poz-pozik.Yesterday I was at the movies with friends: it was a comedy, a premiere. We chose that film after looking at the poster; the tickets were cheap, because it had been showing for its third month already. We spent the whole evening laughing, and at the end there was a long round of applause. The director was standing outside, and we took photos with him. We returned home by bus, very content.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Basque?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
