Un viatge amb cotxe de lloguer

A short in Catalan text at level A2. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. This summer we travel in a rented car. I booked a double room with a sea view, check-out at twelve. In the car's trunk…

Text

This summer we travel in a rented car. I booked a double room with a sea view, check-out at twelve. In the car's trunk there is a spare wheel, and it must be returned with a full tank. On the road we watch the road signs and do not exceed the speed limit. A small setback cannot break our vacation!

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What did the narrator book?
  2. What lies in the trunk?
  3. How must the car be returned?
  4. What do they do on the road?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Catalan?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
