Text

My smartphone is new: the screen is big and bright. Every morning I listen to music in headphones and read the newspaper on the screen. In the evening I send messages to the family and we call grandma. If there is no signal, I read a book: it is worth resting from the phone.

  3. Who do they call in the evening?
  4. What does he do if there is no signal?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Valencian?

A1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
