Text

In Almaty spring comes early: in March the sun is warm, and in April it often rains. In summer, especially in July, it is very hot in the city. In autumn the weather is cool and clear — the best time of the year. In winter a lot of snow falls, but in the mountains even more. Every Sunday I go to a park in the mountains.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. When is it very hot in the city?
  2. Which season does the narrator consider the best?
  3. Where does he go on Sundays?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Kazakh?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
