The weather forecast promised us sunny days all week. On Thursday evening the air temperature dropped and the sky turned overcast. At night a thunderstorm began, and then came the downpour and hail. In the morning puddles remained in the yard, and the water carried off the garden bed. Grandpa said he last remembers such a flood twenty years ago. At midday it turned sunny, a rainbow appeared, and the harvest survived after all.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. What did the weather forecast promise?
  2. What happened at night?
  3. What did the water carry off?
  4. How did it all end?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Georgian?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
