Character and conduct
A short in Georgian text at level B1. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. At school we had a boy whom everyone called withdrawn. In class he said nothing, and at break he stood apart and read a…
Text
At school we had a boy whom everyone called withdrawn. In class he said nothing, and at break he stood apart and read a book. Once money went missing in the classroom, and many started gossiping about him in particular. The teacher said an accusation requires a reason, and without proof he would condemn no one. Two days later the money was found in the gym — it had fallen out of someone's pocket. The boy reproached no one and said only one thing: a person should be judged by their actions, not by their silence.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Georgian?
B1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
