Սառցադաշտ, հանքավայր, կանաչապատում: the ա- seam in the middle of a word
The fifty-sixth unit at first glance consists of unpronounceable long words. In fact almost every one of them is two familiar words stitched together by one vowel. Whoever sees the seam can read a word they have never met. For example: “Սառցադաշտը նահանջում է ամեն տարի” — The glacier retreats every year. A rule from the Armenian course: worked out on examples, not memorized as a wording.
How it works
The fifty-sixth unit at first glance consists of unpronounceable long words. In fact almost every one of them is two familiar words stitched together by one vowel. Whoever sees the seam can read a word they have never met.
The linking -ա- goes between the roots. Հանք + վայր (vayr) → հանքավայր (a deposit), աղբ (aghb) + վայր → աղբավայր (a dump), կանաչ (kanach) + պատում → կանաչապատում (landscaping, 'green-covering'), կեղտ (keght) + ջրեր → կեղտաջրեր (wastewater), ջերմ + ոց → ջերմոց (a greenhouse).
The first root often loses its tail in the stitching. Սառույց (sarruyts) + դաշտ (dasht) gives not 'սառույցադաշտ' but սառցադաշտ (sarrtsadasht): the 'ույ' drops out. Likewise ածուխ (atsukh) + ծին → ածխածին (carbon), ժամանակ (zhamanak) + հատված (hatvats) → ժամանակահատված (a period). The rule is simple: an unstressed vowel in the middle does not survive.
The tails: -ավայր means 'place', -արան means 'premises', -ություն means 'property'. Knowing this, you will take apart հանգստավայր (a resort), գրադարան (a library), բազմազանություն (diversity) without a dictionary.
The reverse move: a participle instead of an adjective. English 'endangered species' — literally 'a disappearing species' — Armenian builds with the -ող participle: անհետացող տեսակ (anhetatsogh tesak). The same -ող made վերականգնվող (renewable) and զիջող (yielding, accommodating) from unit 59. The suffix is alive: attach it to any verb and you get 'the one that does it'.

How the rule settles in your head
A rule is not memorized from an explanation. It is memorized from an attempt to use it and a mistake — that is why the app delivers it mixed in with words, not as a separate lesson: it resurfaces exactly where you forgot it.
