The first is familiar: the question particle -ތަ in conversation and -ތޯ (-tho) with strangers and elders. You ask a friend ހޮސްޕިޓަލް ދުރުތަ (hospital dhurutha), and a person behind the counter ހޮސްޕިޓަލް ދުރުތޯ. Getting it wrong is not scary, but -ތޯ is never out of place.
The second device is the verb itself. A plain command is the short form: ފުރާ (fill in), ބުނޭ (say), ދީ (give). The polite one is built with the insert -އްވާ: ފުރުއްވާ (furuvvaa), ވިދާޅުވޭ (vidhaalhuvey), ދެއްވާ (dhevvaa). These are the forms printed on official blanks and heard in announcements, so recognizing them matters more than building them.
The prohibition is assembled with the prefix ނު-: އަތް ނުލާ (aiy nulaa) — "do not touch". The prefix goes to the verb, and the verb, as always in Divehi, comes last.
