Text

  • Avui fa sol i anem a la platja amb els amics. La sorra és calenta, però l'aigua és fresca. Primer nedem una hora i després prenem el sol sota el para-sol. Al vespre la posta de sol és bonica i tornem a casa.
Today it is sunny, and my friends and I go to the beach. The sand is hot, but the water is cool. First we swim for an hour, then we sunbathe under the umbrella. In the evening the sunset is beautiful, and we return home.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. Where do the narrator and friends go?
  2. How is the water in the sea?
  3. What do they do after swimming?
  4. When do they return home?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Catalan?

A1. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
