Reformes a casa
A short in Catalan text at level A2. The translation sits next to it: reading with a dictionary is still too early at this level, and without support it will not happen at all. This weekend there is repair work at Oscar's home. The storeroom door does not close properly: Oscar oils the hinges…
Text
This weekend there is repair work at Oscar's home. The storeroom door does not close properly: Oscar oils the hinges and changes the old lock. Then he wants to hang a photo frame in the living room and drills the wall; first he moves the furniture away and lays a rug on the floor so as to scratch nothing. In the toolbox he finds a saw, a brush and varnish: the old plank from the balcony he wants to paint blue. In the evening, when the parents come, everything is assembled; the only thing that does not work is the old flashlight: it lacks a bulb.

Frequently asked
What level do you need to read this text in Catalan?
A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.
How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?
First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
