Text

  • El dissabte vaig al mercat amb la meva família. És a prop de casa, a deu minuts a peu. Hi ha fruita, peix i formatge molt bo. M'agraden molt les taronges de València. Un quilo costa dos euros. Després dinem en un restaurant petit.
On Saturday I go to the market with my family. It is near the house, ten minutes on foot. There are fruits, fish and very tasty cheese. I like Valencian oranges very much. A kilogram costs two euros. Then we have lunch in a small restaurant.

Comprehension questions

The questions are asked in Russian on purpose: we test your understanding of the text, not your ability to read the question.

  1. When do they go to the market?
  2. How long is the walk to the market?
  3. What does the narrator especially like?
  4. What do they do after the market?

Frequently asked

What level do you need to read this text in Catalan?

A2. That means: you know the letters and have a stock of everyday words — about two or three hundred.

How to read a text in an unfamiliar language usefully?

First all the way through without peeking at the translation — just to catch the familiar words. Then with the translation. Then all the way through again: the second pass brings noticeably more, and that feeling matters more than any rule.
